Basic Holt Rules

These are the rules that go without saying... but I will say them just so you can't blame me for springing things on you. ;)
  • The ElfQuest elves exist in an alternate dimension--your elves can't encounter them, know of them, be related to them, or be coincidentally exactly like any of them. This is set down by the Pinis for all holts.
  • All work must be original (your own), except with the creator's permission.

Character/Sheet Rules

  • 1. When filling in your name, please give a first and last name. There may be more than one with the same first name, if not now then in the future.

  • 2. You must give me your home (street) address if you want to get any holt fanzines, holiday cards, or anything else through the mail. (duh) It's also a good idea in case you go offline or disappear unexpectedly, so I can still get in touch with you. This information will not be posted anywhere on the internet.

  • 3. Look at other people's CIS before you fill yours out. No one wants their elf to be the same as a bunch of other elves. :) This will also tell you more about the colony, and give you ideas on how your elf can fit in.

  • 4. Your elf MUST have been born and raised in this tribe. This is supposed to be a very distant and insular group with not much knowledge of other tribes, much less contact with them. No more wanderers, returned elves who have been living with other tribes, or elves who grew up by themselves after having abandoned or lost.

  • 5. Just about any age is fine, but please, no one older than 7000 or younger than 13. If you want an elder or a young child some are available for adoption.

  • 6. Please do not create any more adoptable/NPC elves to be your family members. There are too many NPC elves right now, while other elves still don't have any family. Please look for other people's characters for family relationships!!! There are always characters needing parents especially. Please do not have your entire family be dead unless your character is fairly old (a few thousand, at least). This trend of entire families being wiped out every few years is, er, disturbing.

  • 7. Dolphins are welcome to have unusual markings, but there is a difference between unusual and impossible. Remember this is ElfQuest--the laws of nature still apply. Sadly, dolphins do tend to look pretty generic. :) Some things that set them apart from one another are the scars or marks on their fins, subtle color shifts, differences in stripes, spots, etc.

  • 8. In describing your character's looks and personality, try to avoid one or two word answers. Filling out a CIS isn't just a formality or so I can approve your character concept; it's an important source of information for other members and potential members. You want a reader to be able to get a good mental picture of your elf from your description. What things would stand out to someone who knows your elf? What would someone need to know to be able to write about or draw your elf well?

  • 9. No more metal weapons. Metal is very hard to come by underwater, and the odd jewelry item or trinket is about all you see. All these things are usually made of the natural substances you would find near the sea, such as coral, shell, bone, etc. Of course, like any elf tribe all clothing, tools, and personal items come from natural materials found in their surroundings--in this case, the sea. If you'd like more specific info on what/how, ask.

  • 10. We have enough magic right now. If you really want a certain power, ask me about putting your character on the waiting list. As elves die or leave, your elf may discover they have a hidden power. ;)

These will added on to at a later date, as I see the need. If there is something not covered here that you think should be, please ask me to add it. Click here to go on to the CIS.
