How to Join...

It's really easy, just write to me-- e-mail or snail-mail-- and tell me you want to join. I would like to have a home address for everyone, not just e-mail, but if you cannot give this out it's okay. If you have already created a character, send me an information sheet on them for me to look over. I will tell you if it is okay or if there are any changes you need to make. Adoptable elves are first come, first serve, so if you are interested in someone, let me know immediately!

What next?

After you are "officially" a member, I will send you an invitation to the club mailing list. Here you can exchange stories or pictures, roleplay, and get to know other members. Say hi to everyone! :) Please do not spam, flame, or send forwards to the list.

Now you create your elves if you haven't already. Everyone can have 2-3 elves if they wish. Right now I am limiting the number of adoptable/NPCs, so please don't invent any characters you will not be playing yourself. I suggest that you try to find other members' elves to be related to. This is much more fun than making them all yourself, and keeps down the number of elves there are to keep track of. You can "earn" extra elves by being very active in the club.

Your elf's CIS will be posted on the site in the Elves section, along with your name and e-mail address. If you have given me your home address, it will not be posted for everyone to see--this information is only given to other members who have also given me the same information, by way of the zine's member listing.

You can get the holt's paper zine, Tidings, when it comes out, and various other things, as explained below:

The Newsletter

The print newsletter for our club is called "Tidings." It is printed in black and white, with color paper covers, on a digital copier or printer. Page count is approx. 40-100 pages per issue, depending on submissions. About 95% is original material that you won't see anywhere else, with a few reprints from the site for offline members. Submissions to the newsletter need to be sent to: Tidings, c/o Rachel Bebber, 353-2 Black Wing Place, Wilmington, NC 28403 USA. Please do not send your only copy of anything!

Submission Guidelines

  • Art, online: Art can be any medium you choose, of any elf you choose. You do not need to get permission before drawing another person's elf. However, you should send the owner a copy to okay before sending it to me, in case you got something wrong accidentally. Pictures should be no larger than 300k and 640x480. If you don't know what this means or how to do it, I can do it for you. You may draw whatever you like, but any pics that may be considered "objectionable" will be posted with a warning (violence, partial nudity, homosexual themes, or whatever may apply).

  • Art, zine: Art should be a clear black & white photocopy, 8 1/2" x 11" or smaller, and must be dark enough to copy. I will accept originals and return them if desired, but understand this is at your own risk. I will not be responsible for art lost in the mail! No graphic nudity or violence is allowed. Pieces must be labeled with the character's name and a copyright notice to whomever owns the character.

  • Writing, online: Writing can be any length, any style, in .doc, .txt, or .rtf format. Storylines that affect the entire colony must be okayed with me first. You may not invent characters, holts, magics, etc to use in a story with the possible exception of those taking place in the past. You may use any existing character in a story, as long as you get the owner's approval on how the character is portrayed. (You may send a copy of the entire story, or only the scene the elf is in if you wish.) If you don't hear from those involved within two weeks consider replacing the character, unless you feel like waiting longer. Minor characters--those in cameo or "walk-on" roles--may be used without approval as long as their use is true to their CIS. All stories are edited for grammar, spelling, and factual correctness before publication.

  • Writing, offline: If you send me anything by snail-mail please use a plain, easily read font or plain text on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. If you don't have a computer, please print neatly. Be sure to double-space so I have room to edit it. Major characters should get three months to reply when communicating offline, minor characters get one. If you have not heard from someone by then and your letter hasn't been returned, you may assume your use of the character is okay. You will only get back your edited story if there is something you need to change--minor spelling or grammatical mistakes will be corrected by me.
